Symmetry controls the direction that the texture is painted into
each side of the frame and is much more flexible in Picture Frame+
than in Picture Frame. In Picture Frame+ there are 32 selections
and these are divided into 2 groups, 1-16 and 17-32.
Both groups have one selection for each of the 16 possible combinations
that the texture can be drawn into the frame sides.
Before looking at the drawing direction combinations, first let's look
at how the texture is aligned in each frame side.
Depending on the state of Edge Align
the texture may be painted either uniformly into the entire frame or
rotated differently for each side.
See Edge Align help for more information
on the rotations.
Next, let's look at how the two groups differ from each other. The first
group (1-16) aligns the center line of the texture tiles with the center
lines of the image. The second group (17-32) aligns edges of the texture
tiles with the center lines of the image. The following diagram illustrates
what this means. Only the frame top tiles are shown, but the same concept
applies to the other sides too.
Group 1 (1-16)
Center-to-center aligned
|
|
Group 2 (17-32)
Edge-to-center aligned

Now let's look at the painting directions. As mentioned before, there
are 16 possible combinations. The following diagram illustrates the
combination of directions that the texture is painted into each frame
side for each Symmetry selection.
The following example shows the same frame at two different symmetry
settings in the same group.
Symmetry = 1

Symmetry = 2

The next example shows the identical symmetry combinations but in
different groups.
Symmetry = 1

Symmetry = 17
