Paint Shop Pro (JASC) Installation Instructions Plugin filters for Paint Shop Pro can be just about anywhere. To keep things in order and easy to manage it is suggested that you create a plugins folder and put all of your plugin filters there. A typical folder name might be:
Start Paint Shop Pro and open an image in 16.7 Million Colors (24 Bit) mode. The BorderMania or PhotoSwizzle group should show up on the Image - Plugin Filters menu. If it doesn't, select File - Preferences - General Program Preferences - Plugin Filters. Use the dialog box to enable plugin filters and select the folder where you copied the filters. Paint Shop Pro recognizes the changes immediately so it isn't necessary to exit and restart the program. If you still have trouble, try the following web site for more detailed information:
And one more possible item...the Grapho Maniac web site says to copy MSVCRT10.DLL to the Windows\System directory. At least one source of information has recommended copying MSVCRT10.DLL to the Paint Shop Pro main directory too. PhotoImpact (Ulead) Installation Instructions Create a folder and copy the filter files to it. A typical folder name might be:
PhotoImpact recognizes multiple plugin directories and new ones may be added in a dialog box. If you created a new folder inside the PhotoImpact default plug-ins folder like in the example above, you can skip the next paragraph. Start PhotoImpact and select File - Preferences - General - PhotoImpact - Plug-ins. Use the dialog box to add to the list the folder where you copied the NVR filters. Exit from PhotoImpact. Start PhotoImpact. Open an image in RGB True Color (24 bit) mode. The BorderMania or PhotoSwizzle group should show up on the Effects menu. Photo-Paint (Corel) Installation Instructions Create a folder and copy the filter files to it. A typical folder name might be:
Photo-Paint recognizes multiple plugin directories and new ones may be added in a dialog box. Start Photo-Paint and select Tools - Options - Plug-In Filters. Use the dialog box to add to the list the folder where you copied the NVR filters. Open an image in 24 Bit RGB Color mode. The BorderMania or PhotoSwizzle group should show up on the Effects menu. Adobe Photoshop Installation Instructions Copy or move the filter files to the Photoshop plugins directory. Typical directory names are:
Start Photoshop and open an image in RGB mode. If the BorderMania or PhotoSwizzle group doesn't show up on the Filters menu, select File - Preferences - Plug-ins and use the Plug-ins dialog box to select the plug-ins directory name. Then exit Photoshop and restart it and the filters should appear in the Filters menu. Picture Publisher (Micrografx) Installation Instructions Create a folder and copy the filter files to it. A typical folder name might be:
Picture Publisher recognizes multiple plugin directories and new ones may be added in a dialog box. Start Picture Publisher and select Tools - Options - Plug-ins. Use the dialog box to add to the list the folder where you copied the NVR filters. Click the Apply button and close the plug-ins dialog box. Open an image in RGB Color (24 bit) mode. The BorderMania or PhotoSwizzle group should show up on the Effects menu. Windows DLL Installation Instructions You need these files to run BorderMania 2.0 and above and all versions of PhotoSwizzle:
What are they? CRTDLL means C Run Time Dynamic Link Library, and MSVCRT means Microsoft Visual C Run Time. These files contain common subroutines used by programs created with Microsoft Visual C, as BorderMania and PhotoSwizzle are. You may already have the necessary files installed on your system. The quickest way to find out is to install the filters and then try to use one in your graphics program. If you get any Windows dialog boxes warning about errors or missing DLLs when you start the program or when you try to use one of the filters, then at least one of the DLL files is missing. Alternately, you can check the windows directory to see if the files are there. If the files are not there, you can download them from the table below. Make sure to get the ones for your operating system because they are not compatible with each other. Note that the name WINDOWS in the installation directory names may be different depending on how you installed Windows. For upgrades from Windows 3.1 to Win 95, Win 98 or Win NT 4.0 the name will probably be WINDOWS but for clean installations it may be WIN95, WIN98, WINNT or another name you may have chosen during installation. Also see the notes following the table for more information on which one to choose.
Which One Should I Choose? Two download methods (HTTP, FTP) and two file types (.EXE, .ZIP) are available. The preferred download method is HTTP because it's the most commonly used protocol for web pages. The main reason for trying FTP is if HTTP download fails for you more than once. For the file types, the .ZIP versions are standard compressed zip archives. The .EXE versions have the same contents as the .ZIP versions except that they are also self-extracting. The .EXE versions are more convenient so they are preffered, but if you feel uncomfortable about running self-extractors because of worries about virus infection choose the .ZIP version instead. Note that the filters must be extracted manually from the .ZIP version. If you choose a .ZIP version, be aware that the newer Web browsers have a bad habit of changing the file extension from .ZIP to .EXE when saving the downloaded file to your disk, and you may have trouble extracting the files from the archive. If this happens, either download again and change the file extension from .EXE to .ZIP when the browser asks you what to name the downloaded file, or change the extension with File Explorer after it is downloaded. Windows NT 3.51 isn't covered in the table because we don't have test facilities to verify it and quite honestly we don't know where to get the files. Hopefully as with Windows NT 4.0 they come with the Windows NT distribution. How to uninstall the plugins To uninstall the plugins delete them from your plugins folder as follows. Open your plugins folder and look for the BorderMania and PhotoSwizzle files. The BorderMania file names all start with 'nvrbm' and the PhotoSwizzle file names start with 'nvrph'. Then each file has a 1 or 2 digit number, 1 through 19 for BorderMania and 1 through 9 for PhotoSwizzle, or r for the registration plugin. All of them end with .8bf. For example, nvrbm10.8bf and nvrbmr.8bf are two of the BorderMania files and nvrph4.8bf is one of the PhotoSwizzle files. Delete all of them to uninstall the software. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
