Max Tiling works together with Auto Size.
It selects which of the texture dimensions is used to determine the
auto sized frame width. But it doesn't select texture height or width
directly. Instead when Max Tiling is not selected the smaller
of the two texture dimensions is used, and when Max Tiling is
selected the larger of the two is used. For square textures the height
and width are the same so Max Tiling has no effect.
Here's an example of a texture with height greater than width.
Actual Size, 25x30 pixels
6x Magnification
The following example shows how Max Tiling works on an auto sized frame
with this texture. For both images the frame width is identical
(50).

Note that there are no zig-zags in this texture like there are in the
texture shown to the left.
That's because with a non-square texture there are no perfect
diagonals in the digital world of pixels so it's very difficult if not
impossible to achieve symmetry for such features. So it is recommended
to always use a square texture for such applications unless you have a
very compelling reason not to.
